When all else fails, make a smoothie.
I don’t know why the above quote isn’t all over pinterest. I’d pin it like crazy. It’s the truth.
Too much fruit in the fridge? Smoothie time.
Need a healthy snack? Smoothie time.
Dying to use your blender? Smoothie time.
Hungry and thirsty after a long workout? Smoothie time.
Feeling the need to ingest something healthy (or at least more healthy depending on ingredient list)? Smoothie time.
Bought too many bags of baby spinach at the grocery store (#BOGOprobs!!)? Smoothie time.
Looking for a quick, on-the-go breakfast? Smoothie time.
Unless you really struggle with reading comprehension, I bet you are catching on to my point here. Smoothie time.
This is a really great smoothie because it is tangy (hooray!), sweet (yippee!) and zippy (?!?!). Don’t be like me and get lazy about segmenting the grapefruit when you first make this. Pith (as expected) is not pleasant in smoothies. Yuck. If you are in a rush, you could just juice the grapefruit and skip adding the water. This smoothie has a ‘zippy’ quality because of the ginger. Ginger is amazing… right? It’s like weird lemon-y, potent, spicy…. and well… ummm… zippy flavor. I should really be a professional food writer. Anyways, you should certainly make this smoothie because it will knock your socks (and snow boots in my case) right off.
It’s smoothie time.
1 grapefruit, peeled/seeded/chopped
2C frozen strawberries
1 apple (recommend: honeycrisp or sweet apple), peeled/cored/chopped
1″ fresh ginger, peeled
optional: water (~1/2C)
Process grapefruit, strawberries, apple, and ginger until smooth. Add water until you achieve desired consistently.
