Red and White and Blue and Fireworks and Sangria

Happy 4th of July! It’s time to celebrate – red, white, and blue style.

Bad storms knocked out our power and a drought has left us with dangerously dry ground. Between the dry ground and the lack of power, the fireworks have been cancelled. Although sad, I still plan to celebrate the 4th – with a patriotic drink in my right hand and a flag in my left. It will take more than the absence of fireworks to ruin my 4th!

Printable Recipe

1 bottle dry white wine (suggest Pinot Grigio)
1/2C pomegranate schnapps*
1 1/2C strawberries, hulled and halved
3/4C blueberries
15 – 20 cherries, pitted and halved
1 starfruit, sliced
1/4C sugar (optional)
club soda

Combine wine, schnapps, and fruit. Stir in sugar until dissolved. Allow to chill for several hours (best overnight).
To serve, add ice to glass. Add juice-wine mix until 2/3 full. Add a few pieces of fruit. Top off with club soda.

*Can’t find pomegranate schnapps? I’ve used raspberry and blueberry with delicious results.
